Art and Photography by Susan Moss Is the name of my shop, it is what I do - I'm an artist and photographer. Flowers are my favourite subject to photograph and to paint. Travel plays a big part in my life and this reflects in my photography.

What's the best advise you got when you were starting out?

Susan Moss :

Fill up your shop with product and promote and keep focused, it could take some time to get your first sale. But have fun with it.

Rico:
What medium/tools do you use to create your designs?

Susan Moss :

Corel Paintshop Pro x4 which I am still a novice at, so much to learn how to use it properly. I'm doing online tutorials trying to soak it all in.

Rico:
Who or what inspires you?

Susan Moss :

I love the contact with my Facebook friends with Zazzle stores. It amazes me what they create and the resulting sales.

Rico:
How much time a week to you spend on Zazzle?

Susan Moss :

About three or four hours a day, mostly after dinner at night until I can't keep my eyes open any longer!

What's the best advise you can give someone just starting out on Zazzle?

Susan Moss :

Keep focused on your goals but most importantly have fun with it.

Rico:
What do you like to do when you are not creating art?

Susan Moss :

Love spending time with my husband Ray, four young grandchildren and their parents, and my friends in my weekly painting group.

How long have you been at Zazzle?

Barbra :

Wow according to my records I've been with Zazzle since 2007. To tell you the truth in 2007 I put some artwork up on Zazzle and forgot all about it. Then in 2009 I received an E-mail saying I made 25 cents. Well this made me think and I started adding more artwork and product to the site in 2009. Truthfully I feel my official Zazzle experience started in 2009!

Rico: Are you a ProSeller?

Barbra :

Yes I am a ProSeller a Bronze Proseller. It took me just a tad over a year to become a Pro seller. I'm sure I could do better and move up the ranks if there was more time in my day. I work full time and than dabble with my art on the side. Plus believe it or not I'm a wife and mom as well. Although I must confess my daughter is an adult now and doesn't need me as often as a young child needs their mommy.

Rico:
What's the best advise you got when you were starting out?

Barbra :

The seasoned Zazzlers would always remind me about good tags and quality products. I heard repeated over and over less is better than more if the quality is there.

Rico:
What medium/tools do you use to create your designs?

Barbra :

I mostly create my designs by drawing with pen & ink. Quite a few of my designs are just black and white. Althought lately I've been experimenting with color via pen & ink as well as other mediums. I also create some commercial looking products with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop (these designs are usually color).

Rico:
Who or what inspires you?

Barbra :

I receive my inspiration from many different sources. Just two years ago I received my inspiration from children who asked me to draw animals and mythical creatures for them. Sometimes the inspiration comes from nature via my long bicycle rides. Let's just say my inspiration is born from the beautiful world surrounding me.

Rico:
How much time a week to you spend on Zazzle?

Barbra :

The time I spend on Zazzle really varies from week to week and sometimes month to month.

Rico:
What's the best advise you can give someone just starting out on Zazzle?

Barbra :

The best advise I can give to someone just starting out is to follow your heart and don't give up!

Rico:
What do you like to do when you are not creating art?

Barbra :

When I'm not creating art I like to spend time with the family, bicycle ride, hike, read, see music, and the list goes on....

My daughter and I have had many discussions over the decades about people accepting one another for what they are. I love the design because it share this feeling without using words.

I have a fascination with owls and this summer I started to experiment with applying colors in different ways. This mum & young-ling is what evolved from one of my experiment. How long have you been at Zazzle?

Kara Stewart:
I opened my shop on zazzle in mid-April, 2011, so I’ve only been a ‘zazzler’ for a little over four months.

Rico:
Are you a ProSeller? 

Kara Stewart:
No, I’m not a ProSeller yet, but I hope to be in the near future!

Rico:
What's the best advise you got when you were starting out? 

Kara Stewart:
The best advice I got when I was starting out was to read, read, read! There is so much information for new zazzlers in Zazzle University and the forums, and it is extremely helpful when starting out. The forums are a great place to meet other zazzlers, and the New to Zazzle thread is particularly helpful.

Rico:
What medium/tools do you use to create your designs?

Kara Stewart:
My art is photography and all my designs are based on my original images. I use a Nikon D300 DSLR and Photoshop CS5 and Corel’s Paint Shop Pro Photo for editing. I create ‘straight’ images, images using editing software and textures, and I just love to use images for their color and create abstract designs from them too!

Rico:
Who or what inspires you? 

Kara Stewart:
I am inspired not only by just life all around me, but by other photographers. There are a number of excellent photography sites and forums out there, and a ton of inspiring images. I find that when I browse through other people’s images, I get ideas for my own images, as well as inspiration to try new techniques and learn new things. I belong to the smugmug daily community (www.smugmug.com and their Daily Photos), where there are tons of supportive photographers and also Digital Grin with their extremely talented photographers. And I subscribe to or keep up with a lot of photography blogs such as Light Stalking and Digital Photography School. My real life interests inspire what I shoot: dog images are just about tops with me, Native American images and designs (I’m a Native crafts person member of the Indian Arts & Crafts Association), flowers and nature, food photography and rural scenes and images.

Rico:
How much time a week to you spend on Zazzle? 

Kara Stewart:
This summer I had an unplanned hiatus from working and so was able to spend significant amounts of time daily on designing zazzle products and marketing them – probably 12 – 14 hours a day. But I have since returned to work full time, I am now only able to spend an hour or two each evening during the week on zazzle (if I am not too tired!) as well as all day Saturday and Sunday.

Rico:
What's the best advise you can give someone just starting out on Zazzle? 

Kara Stewart:
I’d give someone starting out on zazzle the same good advice that I was given – read, read, read about zazzle! Spend a significant chunk of your beginning time reading through the forums and the tutorials on Zazzle University.

Rico:
What do you like to do when you are not creating art? 

Kara Stewart:
I feel like I am always creating art (except when I am at work)! My other creative love besides photography is writing. I am fortunate to have made a number of writer contacts and I love to keep up with them and what they are writing in addition to my own writing. Aside from that, I read and love to dote on and play with my Golden Retriever, Samson. If I ever have the time and money, I intend to travel anywhere and everywhere!

Tell me 5 random things everyone should know about you? 

Kara Stewart:
I love chocolate cheese pie and the sound of the ocean, although I’d rather vacation in the mountains than at the beach, I secretly love to watch the ‘judge shows’ on tv and I wanted to be an astronaut when I was little.

One of my favorite designs are my Your Own Dog’s Picture Dog Breed mugs. I designed these so that you can easily drop in your own canine love’s image on one side and have breed information on the other side. I currently have these available in Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Yorkshire Terrier, Boston Terrier, Rat Terrier and French Bulldog. I love these because they would be so easy to make a truly memorable gift for your favorite dog lover.

Another one of my favorite designs is Night Camellia . I took this on a trip to North Carolina State University’s Raulston Arboretum in the spring. So many gorgeous blossoming plants! I processed it using Topaz Adjust’s Night filter.

Olga Hutsul : Since March 2011

Olga Hutsul : No, but when I get there I will own the world!!!

Rico: What's the best advice you got when you were starting out? 

Olga Hutsul : To plan the store well and to work on descriptions/tags. To actively promote what you have designed. Unfortunately do not have patience to follow them.

Rico: What medium/tools do you use to create your designs? 

Olga Hutsul : My own photography is at the heart of everything I do. I use Photoshop for creating my designs. Planning on mastering illustrator as well. And really want to pick up pencil and brush again.

Rico: Who or what inspires you? 

Olga Hutsul : El Greco, Giotto, Salvador Dali, completely random phrases from the Bible, boats, Umberto Eco, decay, Albrecht Durer, my sufferings at Wagner’s opera(believe me they are by far stronger than that of his characters’), Nietzsche, moon, king Solomon, Dante, total inability to enjoy Picasso, brick walls, dragonflies, Ieronim Bosh, Plain White T’s ”Delila”, fishing nets, Anne Leibowitz, King Oedipus, chocolate ice cream, Dostoyevsky, white paper, Sagrada Familia (Barcelona), Russian poetry, huge empty spaces with large windows, Geometry, monasteries, my hopeless dreams of Venice...

Rico: How much time a week to you spend on Zazzle? 

Olga Hutsul : Average 3-4 hours a day

Rico: What's the best advice you can give someone just starting out on Zazzle? 

Olga Hutsul : Keep focused, when you design something have potential buyer / target group in mind. Think about the product how and when it could be used, who might be interested. Do not waste time on creating endless products based on backyard snapshots of flowers. Put more thought in your work. There is so much of everything out there that your designs really have to stand out.

Rico: What do you like to do when you are not creating art? 

Olga Hutsul : Read and hike

Olga Hutsul : There is not that many things I know about myself:
I get inspired (and carried away) easily
I love to travel – if I could I would do that for a living.
I am consumed by photography.
I dream about having enough time to do things I love.
